Do I need to take any special care of my braces?
Yes. The orthodontic appliance in your mouth is delicate and needs to be taken care of to function properly and to give good results in minimum time. Tooth brushing must be done regularly and thoroughly at least twice a day and just before your scheduled appointment. The following video explains the correct brushing technique
The orthodontic wax if provided must be kept handy and used as directed. In case the appliance breaks it must never be fixed by the patient or the parent, it must be reported to the doctor at the earliest.
Appointments must be kept regularly. Missed appointments not only prolong the treatment but also can lead to unfavorable sequels.
What food restrictions will I have?
During the entire course of treatment there are certain foods that must be avoided- they are chikki, chakli, hard ladoos, pop corn, hard base pizza, wafers, banana chips, chewing gums, frozen chocolates, other chocolates like sneakers, perk, munch, kit kat, éclairs, fruit and nut, grilled sandwich, dry fruits, toasts, full carrots, full apples, full guava, pomegranate, sev puri, aerated drinks, waffle cones, peanuts, paan, supari, meat with bone, or any other hard and sticky foods.
You can eat chapatti, roti, puri, paav, bread, rice, biryani, soft base pizzas, all types of vegetables and fruits, pulses, idli, vada, dosa, burgers, juices, non frozen plain chocolates, ice creams, cakes, boneless chicken, meat and fish or any other soft foods
Will i have discomfort?
Some degree of discomfort is to be expected for the first few days after the appliance is placed. There may be some pain for 2-3 days following placement and on subsequent reactivations for which a pain killer can be taken
What happens after the treatment?
Retainers will be provided at the time of removal of the braces. They may be fixed or removable depending upon requirement. Retainers are a part of the treatment and must be worn regularly to prevent relapse.
What happens to my extraction spaces?
At the end of treatment all the spaces will close completely unless a deliberate plan is to replace missing teeth
